Schools - Facilities

ICPA Qld under the portfolio of Schools (Facilities) advocates for the provision of quality educational facilities in rural and remote schools including adequate school infrastructure and staff housing. 

The Schools (Facilities) Portfolio includes issues surrounding access to and the delivery of quality educational services in rural and remote schools. 

In 2024 the Schools (Facilities) Portfolio will focus on issues including:

• Facilities upgrades to provide timely and adequate access for all students, including those with disabilities
• The need for alternate power supplies
• Adequate security for all schools, particularly in stand-alone instances
• The provision of suitable housing for teachers and staff

What does ICPA Qld does for your School (Facilities)

• Works with DoE and universities to improve the attraction and retention of quality teachers to small schools – we offer reward packages to preservice teachers who have undertaken a rural practicum and currently we are lobbying to make rural education a key focus in education courses - click here for more information
• Advises DoE, Telstra and nbn on issues which impact on the delivery of quality internet service to our small schools, and as a direct result trials have been conducted with many schools which have resulted in a focus on connectivity across rural and remote Queensland Schools - click here for more information
• Remains a key stakeholder and active participant in various departmental groups
• Continues to advocate to the Department of Transport and Translink regarding maintaining rural bus routes, reviewing conveyance allowances and student fares - click here for further information
• Meets regularly with key DoE branches regarding Infrastructure, Information Technology, Curriculum, Operations and People, Information and Communication Services (PICS)
