ICPA Qld's Schools (Facilities) Portfolio advocates for quality educational facilities in rural and remote schools, including fit-for-purpose school infrastructure, staff housing, and the resources needed to support the delivery of quality education. The portfolio focuses on ensuring rural and remote students have equitable access to safe, functional, and sustainable learning environments.

The Schools (Facilities) Portfolio is focused on addressing key issues including:

• Facilities upgrades to provide timely and adequate access for all students, including those with disabilities
• The need for alternate power supplies
• Adequate security for all schools, particularly in stand-alone instances
• The provision of suitable housing for teachers and staff

• Advocates the Department of Education, Telstra and nbn on on issues affecting the delivery of reliable internet and digital connectivity to rural and remote schools, contributing to trials and initiatives that have improved connectivity across Queensland. Click here for more information.
• Represents rural and remote families as a key stakeholder and active participant in departmental working groups and consultation forums relating to school facilities and infrastructure.
• Meets regularly with key Department of Education branches, including Infrastructure Services, Information Technology, Operations, People, and Information and Communication Services, to advocate for improved school facilities, staff housing, technology and essential services in rural and remote schools.
• Raises issues affecting school infrastructure, staff accommodation, maintenance, and access to quality educational facilities to ensure rural and remote students have equitable learning environments.
