The SA ICPA State Council was pleased to present Lisa Slade with State Life Membership of SA ICPA in March. The award was presented by fellow Flinders Ranges Branch member and State President, Belinda Hatcher.
Lisa’s journey with the Isolated Children’s Parents’ Association (ICPA) began many years ago when she met and married Keith, and moved with their toddler, Isabella, to Moolooloo Station in the Northern Flinders Ranges. It’s no surprise that her late mother-in-law, Lesley, played a pivotal role in encouraging Lisa’s involvement with the Flinders Ranges branch of ICPA.
As life on the station unfolded, Lisa and Keith welcomed Millie and Henry into their family, marking the start of their rural and remote education journey. From supporting her children through Distance Education to navigating boarding school, university, and even medical school, Lisa’s personal experiences have driven her passion for educational equity.
Lisa has been a passionate and tireless advocate for rural and remote education, dedicating herself to ICPA at every level—branch, state, and federal. Her leadership and commitment have left a lasting impact on the organisation and the communities it serves. Over the years, her dedication to ensuring educational equity for rural and remote children and their families has only deepened, earning her widespread respect as a steadfast advocate within the ICPA community.
Throughout her involvement, Lisa has served on the executive of the Flinders Ranges Branch and played key roles on both State and Federal Councils. She has held several positions within SA ICPA, including State President, Vice President, Immediate Past President, and State Webmaster. Lisa first took on the role of State President in 2015, remaining a dedicated and active member of the SA State Council until now.
Lisa’s commitment also extended nationally when she became Federal Treasurer in 2017, a role she held for four years. In this position, she managed the financial operations of the organisation with care and professionalism. Following this, she stepped into the role of Federal Vice President for another 12 months, continuing to offer her experience and leadership at the highest level.
Lisa’s dedication to ICPA and its members has been exceptional. Over the years, many have seen her take on tasks large and small with a practical, results-driven approach. Whether answering questions or guiding others through processes, Lisa was always a reliable point of contact, ready to assist whenever needed.
Her collaborative approach and strong work ethic have been instrumental in much of SA ICPA’s success in recent years. From road trips to policy discussions, Lisa has been a key part of the team. Those who have worked alongside her have gained valuable insight and respect for her commitment and contribution to the organisation.
Congratulations on this well-deserved Life Membership, Lisa. While you may have stepped back from your State Council role, your contributions will continue to be valued—and we’ll certainly remember how to reach you! Thank you for all you’ve done for SA ICPA and rural and remote families.
