The SA ICPA Delegation for 2025 began ON THE 26th of July at Parliament House with a meeting with Hon. Geoff Brock MP, Independent Member for Stuart. This was a valuable opportunity to share the voices of isolated families and reinforce the importance of equitable access to education for all rural and remote South Australians.
From Parliament House, the delegation moved online for a Zoom session with Richard Stokes and Jared Daunt from the Australian Boarding Schools Association (ABSA). Their wealth of knowledge and insights into boarding education were invaluable.
The final meeting of Day One was with Hon. Blair Boyer, Minister for Education, Training & Skills. This encouraging and genuine discussion felt like a real step forward in our advocacy efforts, with Minister Boyer showing strong interest in the issues that matter most to rural and remote families.
Day Two continued at the same pace, with the delegation meeting a few key stakeholders across government and services.
The morning began with a wide ranging session with the Department for Education and the OECD, covering external relations, transport services, workforce management, student support services, and early childhood.
Next, the delegation met with Child and Family Health Services (CaFHS). This was another positive and constructive conversation, helping us to highlight the service gaps and challenges that remote families face when accessing early childhood and health support.
We did a final Zoom meeting with the Patient Assistance Travel Scheme (PATS) which was constructive. As part of our ongoing advocacy, we are gathering member feedback on the Patient Assistance Travel Scheme (PATS).
• Have you accessed PATS?
• Was the process easy or difficult?
• Why are you choosing not to submit a claim (if this is the case)?
• Any improvements that could make a real difference?
• Have you faced challenges affecting your children’s school attendance due to travel for appointments?
• Would it help your family to attend several appointments in Adelaide at once, rather than making multiple trips?
SA ICPA State Council would like to thank the incredible members who took time out of their busy lives to be the voice of our members. Your commitment, passion, and willingness to advocate for rural and remote families ensured that our members’ concerns and ideas were heard loud and clear. We are so grateful for your efforts, thank you for representing SA ICPA so well.
That’s a wrap on our 2025 face to face delegation.
