Applications are now open for the Department of Education’s 2026 Scholarships and Grants Program. These opportunities reinforce the department’s commitment to recognising aspiring leaders and attracting the best teachers to Queensland state schools, while promoting teaching as a rewarding career path.
The scholarships and grants on offer include:
- Aspiring teacher grants - Support high-achieving secondary graduates commencing teacher education studies in 2026.
- Pearl Duncan teaching scholarships - Assist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to gain an initial preservice teacher qualification.
- Bevan Costello Senior Bursary and Lambert McBride Perpetual Bursary - Provide financial support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students pursuing further education or tertiary studies at a Queensland university.
- TJ Ryan Memorial Medal and Prize - Open to all Queensland secondary schools to nominate high academic achievers demonstrating leadership excellence for tertiary study in 2026.
- Professional Experience placement - Eligible preservice teachers can apply for funding to support placement costs through Beyond the Range, Regional Professional Experience and Teach Queensland prac placement grants
Online applications for the above programs close Friday 12 December 2025, with the exception of the TJ Ryan Awards with nominations closing 28 November, and applications for the professional experience grants closing 19 December.
