“That ICPA Qld lobbies the Queensland Government for a desperately needed substantial increase in the Living Away From Home Allowance Scheme (LAFHAS), to assist geographically isolated families with the increasing costs of boarding school.”
With the increasing cost of living, geographically isolated families are struggling to afford the additional cost of educating children at boarding school. These families have no choice but boarding if they wish their children to have a full education with the opportunities that children in towns and cities have.
We implore the Queensland Government to address this issue as a matter of urgency. While the LAFHAS increase of 2023 has been greatly appreciated, this has well and truly been eaten up by increased school fees across all schools.
