“That ICPA Qld lobbies the Department of Education (DoE) to fund the creation of paper-based learning materials for schools of distance education (SDE's), that match lesson for lesson the content being taught in online lessons, to ensure that a child’s individual learning needs can be met, without reliance on technology, enabling the teacher and home tutor to deliver age-appropriate pedagogies.”
Materials (CSMs) for ACARA Version 9. Notwithstanding, these materials do not achieve functional parity with the established resources that underpin delivery of the ACARA Version 8.4 Curriculum in both online and paper-based contexts.
Without paper-based learning materials to support curriculum learning, distance education will be solely reliant on screen-based delivery. Families and educators should be able to choose to move away from screens for lesson delivery for a number of reasons, including but not limited to:
- Being able to flexibly deliver curriculum content to students
- Suit the learning style and developmental age of the student
- Unreliable internet connectivity and technological platforms for both home learning environments and SDE’s
We ask that the DoE show their commitment to educating rural and remote children, who have limited access to education by funding more than one delivery method of curriculum.
