Born and raised in the Springsure area, I spent my primary school years at Tresswell State School. High school meant I had to go to boarding school which ended up being St Peters Lutheran College in Brisbane. After boarding school, I went on to be a Governess for about 9 years, so I am well aware of the intricacies of rural and remote schooling. After being a govie I went on to work with R.A.F.S which furthered my learning regarding distance education.

After being away for many years, I came back to Springsure and had the opportunity to work in many of the local businesses. I met my husband, also a Springsure local, and we now have 1 son. Last year my son became unwell and could not continue to go to the local State School, so Distance Education has been our way of schooling and will be for some time to come.

While I have always been aware of the ICPA, my son’s illness has given me the impetus to actually become involved. I have become more aware of the differences of the education availability to those who are rural and remote and would like to help work towards equity in education for all children.
