Reg Arthur – Channel Country Branch Life Member, 1988

Reg Arthur’s involvement with ICPA continued when he and his wife, Marg, moved from the Boulia, Bedourie and Birdsville Branch and joined the Channel Country Branch. They attended their first Channel Country Branch meeting on 22 September 1979 and quickly became committed and active members.

Participating in Branch activities required considerable dedication. Reg and Marg regularly travelled 80 miles to Windorah for meetings, 50 miles to Jundah and a further 40 miles to Stonehenge. Despite the distances involved, they remained active participants and represented their Branch as delegates and observers at both State and Federal Conferences.

Reg contributed extensively to Branch fundraising, including raffles and other activities, and worked alongside fellow members to advocate for motions aimed at achieving better outcomes for people living in the outback. The original Life Membership nomination particularly recognised Reg and Marg as tireless workers who were always fair in their outlook and committed to improving opportunities for rural and remote families.

Reg also provided strong leadership within the Channel Country Branch, serving as Vice President in 1981 and President in 1985. His willingness to take on leadership roles, represent the Branch and contribute wherever needed reflected his commitment to ICPA and the communities it served.

In recognition of his dedicated service, advocacy and longstanding contribution to ICPA, Reg Arthur was awarded Life Membership of the Channel Country Branch on 10 October 1988. His Life Membership acknowledged many years of commitment to the Branch and his tireless efforts to support families throughout the Channel Country.
