Background:

I have spent the majority of my life living in the Central Highlands and the Central West, with my education being primarily out west in a small primary school (Jericho) and larger high school (Barcaldine). I began calling Springsure home in 2002 when my family bought a business in the township. From there I met my husband who is a local and have settled in Springsure to raise our family.

Whilst I have always known about the ICPA, I only joined the Springsure/Rolleston branch as a member last year, when we made the decision to send our daughter off to boarding school to complete the last 4 years of her secondary schooling. My decision to join was to support such a wonderful organisation that aligns with my own values of equitable education for all! I found that during the course of my own tertiary studies through online and distance education platforms, that being a rurally based student had me facing varying challenges, from the ups and downs of internet availability right through to the added travel associated with attending exams and this was something I felt I didn't want happening to future generations. My experiences with both mine and my children's education, has made me more aware of the challenges rural and remote students face daily in their education and I hope to be able to help the ICPA in striving for better educational experiences and opportunities for all rural and remote students.
