Pam Crothers – Dirranbandi Branch Life Member, 2022
Pam Crothers has been a passionate and enthusiastic supporter of ICPA and rural education, devoting many years to strengthening the Dirranbandi Branch and encouraging others to become involved. Her enthusiasm for education, particularly the education of rural children, was described as infectious, with Pam remembered as a “ball of energy” who always seemed to have something inspiring underway.
At Branch level, Pam contributed countless hours to the continuation and development of the Dirranbandi Branch, encouraging new members to join, supporting existing members and inspiring people to become active within ICPA. She held various committee positions and remained actively involved at local level through until 2009.
Pam’s commitment extended to ICPA Queensland State Council, where she served from 2002 to 2009. Her enthusiasm for ICPA was equally evident at State level, where she became known not only for her dedication but also for her ability to inspire others. As her nomination recalled, Pam’s enthusiasm was such that if someone was not already “hooked on ICPA”, there was a good chance they would be after spending time with her.
While serving on State Council, Pam also took on the significant role of News & Views Editor from 2004 to 2006. Producing the organisation’s magazine was no small undertaking, particularly from a rural and remote area where access to reliable technology and communications infrastructure presented additional challenges.
Following the sale of the Crothers family farm and Pam’s move into retirement on the Sunshine Coast hinterland, her contribution to ICPA remained highly valued by those who had worked alongside her. She was remembered as a driving force behind the reinvigoration and continuation of ICPA, both within the Dirranbandi Branch and at State level.
In recognition of her many years of Branch service, seven years on ICPA Qld State Council, her contribution as News & Views Editor and her enduring passion for rural education, Pam Crothers was nominated for Life Membership of the Dirranbandi Branch. Her Life Membership recognises not only the positions she held, but also the enthusiasm, energy and encouragement she brought to ICPA and the people around her.
