Judy Treloar – Charleville Branch Life Member, 2023
Judy Treloar’s association with ICPA began in 1984, shortly after she and her husband Michael made their home at Boothulla, Cooladdi. Inspired by the enthusiasm of Charleville Branch members, Judy joined ICPA while pregnant with their eldest child, Dimity, and soon became an active participant. When Dimity commenced Distance Education, Judy also joined the Charleville Branch of the Air. The Treloar family has maintained its ICPA Branch membership ever since. Judy Treloar Life Membership
With Dimity and Will completing their primary schooling through Charleville School of Distance Education before moving away to boarding school for secondary education, Judy had firsthand experience of the challenges faced by geographically isolated families. Her commitment to improving educational access for rural and remote children led her to take on numerous leadership roles within the Charleville Branch, including Publicity Officer in 1992 and 1993, President in 1994, and Vice President in 1995 and 1996.
In 1994, Judy extended her involvement to ICPA Queensland State Council. Two years later she was elected State Secretary, a position she held from 1996 to 2000, serving with distinction and effectiveness. She was also closely involved with the committees responsible for hosting the 1996 ICPA Queensland State Conference and the 2002 ICPA Australia Federal Conference in Charleville. In 2001, Judy received the ICPA plaque in recognition of her contribution to State Council.
Judy’s commitment to rural and remote communities has extended well beyond ICPA. A Registered Nurse, she served on the Royal Flying Doctor Service – Queensland Section Board from 1994 to 2002. After renewing her nursing qualifications and completing a Bachelor of Nursing in 2008, Judy continued to contribute to health outcomes across south-west Queensland through her work at Charleville Hospital and, later, through nursing contracts in Toowoomba.
Even after retiring from nursing, Judy continued her service to ICPA. Combining her extensive health experience with her longstanding commitment to rural and remote children, she has represented ICPA Queensland Off Council on the Queensland Hospital Schools Board.
In recognition of more than four decades of commitment to ICPA, her leadership at Branch and State level, and her enduring advocacy for rural and remote children and families, Judy Treloar was nominated for Life Membership of the Charleville Branch. Her contribution reflects a lifetime of service to her community and a steadfast commitment to improving opportunities for those living in rural and remote Queensland.
