Branch Life Member
Background:

Denise Cameron was awarded Life Membership of the Aramac/Muttaburra Branch in 1986 in recognition of her many years of dedicated service to ICPA and her commitment to improving educational opportunities for isolated children.

Denise was instrumental in the formation of the Branch. In 1971, she was approached by members of the established Barcaldine Branch about forming an ICPA branch within the Aramac Shire. Denise subsequently became a member of the first Aramac/Muttaburra Branch Committee following its inaugural meeting on 24 November 1971.

She remained actively involved in Branch activities and, in 1977, was elected Secretary/Treasurer, a position she held for four years. Alongside her husband Angus, Denise regularly attended meetings and represented the Branch at State and Federal Conferences throughout the 1970s.

Her commitment to the education of isolated children was reflected in her advocacy that children should not be discriminated against in their education because of the remote area allowance. Denise continued attending Branch meetings long after her own family had progressed through their schooling.

In 1985, she organised a successful tribute to the Aramac Shire telephonist, an event that provided both financial and social benefits to ICPA and generated considerable goodwill throughout the district.

Denise’s Life Membership recognised her sustained service, advocacy and commitment to the Aramac/Muttaburra Branch, with her continued support described at the time as an “inspiration” worthy of recognition.
