Michael & Barbara Lord – Charleville Branch Life Members, 1994
Michael and Barbara Lord’s involvement with the Charleville Branch of ICPA spanned 20 years, during which they gave generously of their time to support the Branch, represent isolated families and contribute to the wider work of ICPA. Their involvement was very much a family commitment, with Barbara teaching their three daughters through Primary Correspondence and School of the Air while both remained actively involved in ICPA.
In 1980, Barbara was elected Secretary/Treasurer of the Charleville Branch, while Michael was elected to ICPA Qld State Council. This was also a particularly significant year for the Branch, with Charleville hosting the ICPA Qld State Conference. Michael and Barbara had been instrumental in nominating Charleville at the 1979 Charters Towers State Conference and were heavily involved in hosting the conference the following year.
Over the years, Michael and Barbara represented ICPA at numerous State and Federal Conferences. Together they attended the 1980 Charleville State Conference, the Federal Conference in Bourke and State Conferences in Rockhampton in 1981, Cunnamulla in 1982 and Mt Isa in 1983. Barbara continued this representation at the Federal Conference in Katherine in 1988 and the State Conference in Longreach in 1991.
Throughout their many years of involvement, Michael and Barbara worked tirelessly for the Charleville Branch, giving freely of their time and contributing to fundraising activities whenever needed. Their long-term commitment, leadership and willingness to represent the Branch made them valued members of ICPA.
In recognition of their 20 years of dedicated service and significant contribution to ICPA, Michael and Barbara Lord were awarded Life Membership of the Charleville Branch in 1994. Their joint Life Membership acknowledged two decades of commitment to their Branch and to the rural and remote families ICPA represents.
