Maryanne Ware – Quilpie Branch Life Member, 1992

Maryanne Ware was a foundation member of the Quilpie Branch of ICPA, joining when the Branch was established in 1972. Over the following 20 years, Maryanne became a dedicated and highly valued member, contributing her time, energy and enthusiasm to supporting the Branch and improving educational opportunities for geographically isolated children.

Throughout her involvement, Maryanne held several important leadership positions, including serving as Branch Secretary for three years and Vice President. She also represented Quilpie at several ICPA Queensland State Conferences, demonstrating her commitment to ensuring the concerns of rural and remote families were heard within the wider organisation.

While Maryanne was actively involved in ICPA conferences and policy matters, she was particularly recognised for her outstanding contribution to Branch fundraising. Her tireless efforts played an important role in maintaining the financial strength of the Quilpie Branch and supporting its ongoing advocacy.

One of Maryanne's most significant contributions was her involvement in organising the catering for the Quilpie Races, the Branch's major fundraising event. From 1980, Maryanne took responsibility for coordinating this important activity, dedicating countless hours to its planning and organisation. Her efforts helped establish the event as a reliable source of fundraising for the Branch. When the old Quilpie racecourse was replaced by a new complex in 1986, Maryanne worked through the challenges associated with the transition, ensuring that ICPA could continue providing catering at the races. Her determination and practical approach helped secure the continuation of this valuable fundraising opportunity.

Beyond the Quilpie Races, Maryanne generously contributed her time to numerous other ICPA projects and activities. Her willingness to undertake the work required behind the scenes, alongside her executive responsibilities and conference involvement, made her an invaluable member of the Branch.

Importantly, Maryanne's commitment continued throughout the Branch's first two decades, providing continuity and support as ICPA developed and strengthened its advocacy for isolated families. Her contribution reflected the importance of dedicated volunteers whose efforts enable local Branches to remain active and financially sustainable.

In recognition of her 20 years of dedicated membership, service as Branch Secretary and Vice President, conference representation and tireless commitment to fundraising, Maryanne Ware was awarded Life Membership of the Quilpie Branch in May 1992. Her Life Membership acknowledged an outstanding contribution to the Branch from its foundation and her longstanding dedication to supporting rural and remote families
