Margot Nimmo – Cairns Radio Branch Life Member, 1980
Margot Nimmo played a pivotal role in the establishment and early development of the Cairns Radio Branch of ICPA. As the Branch’s inaugural Secretary/Treasurer, Margot was instrumental in turning the ideas and plans of the newly formed Branch into practical action and helping establish a strong foundation for its future.
Margot served as Secretary/Treasurer for five years, working closely with inaugural President Mark Stoneman during a period of remarkable growth. From humble beginnings, the Cairns Radio Branch grew to become the largest ICPA Branch in Australia, with 104 members.
Her contribution was particularly significant given the enormous geographical area represented by the Branch. The Cairns Radio Branch covered approximately 20 per cent of Queensland, requiring strong organisation, communication and commitment to maintain connections between families spread across such a vast region. Margot's ability to put the President’s ideas and initiatives into action was recognised as an important part of the Branch’s success.
Margot's dedication helped transform the Cairns Radio Branch from a new organisation into a strong and thriving network for isolated families. Her administrative skills, enthusiasm and commitment during those formative years provided invaluable support to the Branch and the geographically isolated families it represented.
In recognition of her outstanding contribution as inaugural Secretary/Treasurer and her five years of dedicated service during the Branch’s formative years, Margot Nimmo was awarded Life Membership of the Cairns Radio Branch on 23 May 1980. Her Life Membership badge was later presented on 9 December 1984.
