Margie Brown – Tambo Branch Life Member, 2000

Margie Brown was a dedicated and highly valued member of the Tambo Branch of ICPA, contributing many years of leadership, enthusiasm and commitment to improving educational opportunities for geographically isolated children. Joining the Branch in 1989, Margie quickly became an active and hardworking member, taking on significant responsibilities at both Branch and State levels.

From the outset, Margie demonstrated a willingness to contribute wherever needed. Shortly after joining the Tambo Branch, she accepted the position of Branch Secretary, a role she held for two years. Her organisational skills, dedication and enthusiasm soon became valuable assets to the Branch, helping ensure its activities and administration ran smoothly.

In 1990, Margie attended the ICPA Queensland State Conference in Clermont, where she accepted the demanding position of ICPA Queensland State Secretary. She held this role for three years, demonstrating an exceptional commitment to the organisation and its work advocating for rural and remote families.

During her time as State Secretary, Margie was recognised as a devoted and hardworking member of State Council. The position involved considerable administrative responsibilities, correspondence and coordination, all undertaken during an especially busy period for State Council. Her willingness to accept these demands reflected her dedication to ICPA and the families it represented.

Following her service as State Secretary, Margie continued contributing to the Tambo Branch, serving as Branch President from 1992 to 1993. Her leadership helped maintain the Branch's activities and strengthen its role in representing the educational needs of local families.

Margie subsequently served as Branch Publicity Officer in 1994, 1995 and 1996, helping promote the Branch's activities and maintain awareness of ICPA's important advocacy work. Through these various executive positions, she demonstrated her versatility and ongoing willingness to contribute to the organisation.

Beyond her formal leadership responsibilities, Margie was particularly valued for her encouragement and support of fellow members. She was always willing to lend a hand, offer assistance and help others become involved in ICPA. Her enthusiasm played an important role in encouraging new families to join the Branch and participate in its activities.

Margie was also an active and dependable supporter of Branch fundraising events, generously contributing her time and effort to activities that helped sustain the Branch and its ongoing advocacy. Her practical assistance, positive attitude and willingness to take on responsibilities made her an important part of the Tambo Branch.

Throughout her involvement, Margie was recognised not only for her dedication and hard work but also for the inspiration she provided to others. Her ability to encourage participation, support fellow members and contribute wherever needed strengthened the Branch and reflected the volunteer spirit at the heart of ICPA.

In recognition of her dedicated Branch service, leadership as Secretary and President, three years as ICPA Queensland State Secretary, contribution as Branch Publicity Officer and tireless support of fundraising and membership activities, Margie Brown was awarded Life Membership of the Tambo Branch on 3 November 2000. Her Life Membership acknowledged her outstanding contribution to ICPA and her commitment to supporting rural and remote children and their families.
