Marg Arthur – Channel Country Branch Life Member, 1988

Marg Arthur’s long association with ICPA began before she and her husband, Reg, joined the Channel Country Branch. After leaving the Boulia, Bedourie and Birdsville Branch, Marg and Reg became members of the Channel Country Branch and attended their first meeting on 22 September 1979. From the outset, Marg was an enthusiastic and committed member, quickly becoming involved in Branch activities.

Active participation required significant commitment, with Marg and Reg travelling 80 miles to Windorah for meetings, 50 miles to Jundah and a further 40 miles to Stonehenge. Despite the distances, Marg regularly attended meetings and, together with Reg, represented the Branch as delegates and observers at both State and Federal Conferences.

Marg was a tireless worker for the Branch, giving freely of her time and energy to support fundraising efforts, including raffles and other activities. She supported motions aimed at helping people of the outback achieve better outcomes and was recognised for always being fair in her outlook. Her willingness to contribute wherever needed made her a valued member of the Branch.

Marg also took on a leadership role within the Channel Country Branch, serving as Secretary in 1982. Her contribution, both through formal positions and her many years of practical support, helped strengthen the work of the Branch and its advocacy for isolated families.

In recognition of her dedicated service and commitment to ICPA, Marg Arthur was awarded Life Membership of the Channel Country Branch on 10 October 1988. Her Life Membership acknowledged her tireless contribution, advocacy and many years of support for the Branch and the rural and remote families it represented.
