Lynise Conaghan – Clarke Creek Branch Life Member, 2025
Lynise Conaghan’s involvement with ICPA spans more than 20 years, beginning as a founding member of the Clarke Creek Branch. Having taught her own children through Distance Education and later taught in small schools within the local area, Lynise brought firsthand experience and a strong understanding of the educational challenges faced by rural and remote families.
From the Branch’s earliest days, Lynise has been a guiding force, helping to build and strengthen the organisation while supporting and mentoring its members. Her commitment has always centred on ensuring children living with distance and isolation have equitable access to education, while also providing encouragement and reassurance to the parents and families navigating those challenges.
Lynise’s contribution extended well beyond the Clarke Creek Branch. She served on ICPA Queensland State Council from 2007 to 2010, including as State Publicity Officer from 2008 to 2009. She later represented Queensland at a national level, serving on ICPA Federal Council from 2015 to 2017. Through these roles and her attendance at State and Federal Conferences, Lynise helped ensure the experiences and concerns of geographically isolated families were represented at all levels of the organisation.
At Branch level, Lynise continued to provide strong leadership, serving as President in 2020 and, from 2022, as Vice President. Her contribution has extended far beyond formal positions, encompassing countless hours travelling to meetings, preparing submissions, advocating for families, welcoming new members and encouraging others to become involved in ICPA.
Lynise’s dedication has been characterised not only by advocacy but by her genuine care for people. She has helped families feel heard, encouraged volunteers to become stronger advocates and remained steadfast in her belief that a child’s educational opportunities should never be limited simply because of where they live.
In recognition of more than two decades of outstanding service, leadership at Branch, State and Federal level, and unwavering advocacy for rural and remote education, Lynise Conaghan was nominated for Life Membership of the Clarke Creek Branch in 2025. Her Life Membership recognises an extraordinary contribution to the Branch she helped establish and her enduring commitment to isolated children, their families and the wider ICPA organisation.
