June Hartwig – Eidsvold–Cracow Branch Life Member, 1983
June Hartwig was a passionate and dedicated supporter of ICPA from its earliest years, contributing significantly to the establishment and development of the organisation within the Eidsvold and Cracow districts. June had firsthand experience of the challenges associated with educating children in geographically isolated areas, having personally taught her four children through correspondence lessons and School of the Air.
June's involvement with ICPA began during the organisation's formative years. She was initially a member of the School of the Air ICPA Branch, before becoming involved with the Auburn–Cadarga Branch when it was established. Her commitment to improving educational opportunities for isolated children saw her represent the Branch as a delegate for several years, ensuring the concerns of local families were heard within the wider organisation.
Recognising the importance of having a strong local voice for rural families, June worked tirelessly to establish the Eidsvold–Cracow Branch of ICPA. Her determination and dedication were instrumental in bringing local families together and creating a Branch that could advocate for the educational needs of children throughout the district.
June became the inaugural President of the Eidsvold–Cracow Branch, providing leadership and guidance during its formative years. She also represented the Branch as a delegate at either the Queensland State or Federal Conference every year, demonstrating her commitment to ensuring that geographically isolated families remained represented in ICPA's advocacy.
Importantly, June's dedication continued long after her own children had completed their schooling. At the time of her Life Membership nomination, she had not had children at school for four years, yet she remained actively involved in Branch activities and ICPA's broader work. Her continued service reflected a genuine belief in the importance of supporting future generations of rural and remote children.
June was remembered for her hard work, determination and unwavering commitment to ICPA, with her fellow members recognising the considerable time and effort she had devoted to establishing and strengthening the Eidsvold–Cracow Branch.
In recognition of her pioneering involvement in ICPA, leadership as inaugural Branch President, extensive conference representation and longstanding dedication to isolated children's education, June Hartwig was awarded Life Membership of the Eidsvold–Cracow Branch on 19 June 1983. Her Life Membership acknowledged an outstanding contribution to the establishment and growth of ICPA within the district and her enduring commitment to improving educational opportunities for rural and remote families.
