Jenny Ford – FNQ Branch Life Member, 2022
Jenny Ford formally joined ICPA after moving to the area in 1992, beginning a longstanding association with what is now the FNQ Branch. Her contribution over the following three decades was characterised by one quality above all, passion. Fellow members recalled that whenever Jenny spoke to new members, her admiration for ICPA and her belief in the difference it could make for families educating children in the bush were unmistakable.
Jenny understood the isolation and frustrations that could accompany educating children in rural and remote areas, and strongly believed in the importance of families having a collective voice through ICPA. She became a wonderful advocate for the organisation, particularly encouraging new members to become involved and understand the support and opportunities ICPA could provide.
Affectionately known as “The Queen of Chocolates,” Jenny was also a tireless fundraiser. For decades, she had chocolates for sale throughout Mareeba, with the funds raised helping the Branch send delegates to conferences to present and advocate for its motions. Her fundraising became a familiar and important part of Branch life and reflected her willingness to contribute in practical ways wherever she could.
Jenny represented the Branch at numerous State and Federal Conferences and actively encouraged newer members to attend and become involved. Over the years, Jenny held numerous Branch positions and provided significant leadership as President in 2000 and again from 2005 to 2011. Importantly, her commitment did not end when her own two daughters grew up and left home. Jenny continued supporting the Branch, sharing her knowledge and encouraging the members who followed.
In recognition of her 30 years of dedicated service, longstanding leadership, tireless fundraising and passionate support of ICPA and its members, Jenny Ford was recognised with Life Membership of the FNQ Branch in 2022. Her contribution reflects not only the positions she held, but the encouragement, enthusiasm and unwavering belief in ICPA that she shared with generations of rural and remote families.
