Garth & Sue Ferguson – Dirranbandi Branch Life Members, 1987
Garth and Sue Ferguson made an outstanding contribution to the Dirranbandi Branch of ICPA, providing many years of dedicated leadership during both strong and challenging periods for the Branch. Their combined commitment, hard work and determination played an important role in maintaining the strength and continuity of ICPA within the Dirranbandi district.
Garth served as Branch President for 12 years, providing steady leadership and helping hold the Branch together during periods when member interest and meeting attendance were low. His commitment extended well beyond local meetings. In 1974 and 1986, Garth and Sue travelled continually on behalf of the Branch, attending meetings at both State and Federal level, taking Branch resolutions forward for consideration and ensuring Dirranbandi remained connected with the wider ICPA organisation.
During his years as President, Garth was also appointed to ICPA Queensland State Council, where he served for three years. His willingness to represent the Branch more broadly strengthened Dirranbandi’s voice and ensured the concerns of local isolated families were heard beyond their own district.
Sue was equally instrumental in the Branch’s success. She attended State and Federal meetings alongside him and, after approximately six years as a Branch member, took on the role of Secretary/Treasurer, a position she held until 1986.
Sue’s service then extended to the national level. In 1986, she was nominated for Federal Assistant Secretary, and later that year, at the Adelaide Federal Conference, she was nominated as Federal Secretary. Her progression to Federal leadership reflected the considerable knowledge, dedication and organisational skills she had developed through her years of Branch involvement.
Together, Garth and Sue were described as a keen, hardworking and dedicated couple whose continued interest and endurance helped ensure the Dirranbandi Branch remained strong. Their service reflected a true partnership, with each contributing significantly to ICPA at Branch, State and Federal levels.
In recognition of their tremendous efforts, longstanding leadership and exceptional commitment to ICPA, Garth and Sue Ferguson were proposed for Life Membership of the Dirranbandi Branch in 1987. Their joint Life Membership was a fitting acknowledgement of the important role they played in sustaining and strengthening the Branch over many years.
