Bruce & Helen Collins – Winton Branch Life Members, 1990
Bruce and Helen Collins were dedicated and highly valued members of the Winton Branch of ICPA, making an outstanding contribution to the organisation through their leadership, commitment and service at both Branch and State levels. Their willingness to undertake significant responsibilities and contribute their time to supporting geographically isolated families made them respected members of ICPA throughout Queensland.
Helen's association with ICPA began in 1974, during the early years of the organisation's development. Over the following years, both Helen and Bruce became actively involved in the Winton Branch, contributing their time and experience to strengthening the organisation and advocating for improved educational opportunities for rural and remote children.
Throughout their involvement, Bruce and Helen held a range of important executive positions within the Winton Branch, including President, Treasurer and Secretary. Their willingness to accept leadership responsibilities provided valuable continuity and support, helping ensure the Branch remained active and effective in representing the educational needs of geographically isolated families.
Their contribution extended beyond their local Branch when both Bruce and Helen were elected to ICPA Queensland State Council at the 1983 State Conference in Cunnamulla. Their election reflected the confidence placed in them by fellow members and their commitment to representing isolated families at a broader level.
Bruce served on ICPA Queensland State Council as a Councillor for one year, Treasurer for three years and Vice President for three years. Through these positions, he contributed to the leadership, financial management and ongoing operation of the organisation, supporting its advocacy for improved educational access and assistance for rural families.
Helen also made a significant contribution to State Council, serving as Assistant State Secretary for four years and as a State Councillor for three years. Her organisational abilities and dedication provided valuable administrative support, helping ensure the effective operation of State Council and its work on behalf of geographically isolated families.
Together, Bruce and Helen demonstrated an exceptional commitment to ICPA, generously contributing their time and experience to both their local Branch and the wider Queensland organisation. Their combined service across numerous executive positions reflected their strong belief in the importance of ICPA and the need for isolated families to have a collective voice in educational matters.
Throughout their involvement, Bruce and Helen were recognised for their reliability, leadership and willingness to contribute wherever needed. Their service strengthened the Winton Branch and supported ICPA Queensland's continued advocacy for equitable educational opportunities.
In recognition of their longstanding commitment to the Winton Branch, extensive Branch executive service and significant contributions to ICPA Queensland State Council, Bruce and Helen Collins were jointly honoured with Life Membership of the Winton Branch on 9 November 1990.
