Anneli Day – Clarke Creek Branch Life Member, 2025
Anneli Day’s involvement with ICPA spans more than 20 years, beginning as a founding member of the Clarke Creek Branch. Having taught her own children through Distance Education and later taught in small schools within the local area, Anneli brought firsthand experience and a deep understanding of the challenges facing rural and remote students, families and educators.
From the earliest days of the Clarke Creek Branch, Anneli played a central role in building a strong and supportive community of advocates. She served as Branch President from 2005 to 2019, providing 14 years of dedicated leadership and ensuring the voices of local families were heard. Her advocacy extended from supporting individual families to raising rural education issues with local, State and Federal representatives.
In 2021, Anneli extended her service to ICPA Queensland State Council, where she served as a State Councillor until 2024. Through her involvement at both Branch and State level, she continued to advocate strongly for equitable access to education, drawing on her experiences as a Distance Education parent, rural educator and longstanding ICPA member.
Anneli’s contribution, however, has extended far beyond formal positions. Over the years she has been involved in fundraising, developing motions, preparing policy submissions, organising community events, mentoring new members and supporting families during difficult times. Even after stepping away from executive roles, she has remained an active and committed member of the Clarke Creek Branch, always willing to step forward when something needs to be done.
Perhaps one of Anneli’s greatest contributions has been her ability to encourage and support others. She has helped parents find their voice, mentored teachers and new members, and strengthened the sense of community that is so important to families experiencing distance and isolation. Her service has been characterised by integrity, compassion and an unwavering belief that every child, regardless of where they live, deserves equitable educational opportunities.
In recognition of more than two decades of outstanding service, 14 years as Branch President, her contribution to ICPA Queensland State Council and her tireless advocacy for rural and remote education, Anneli Day was nominated for Life Membership of the Clarke Creek Branch in 2025. Her Life Membership recognises an enduring contribution to the Branch she helped establish and the countless rural and remote children, families and educators she has supported along the way.
