Welcome to the Charleville BOTA (Branch of the Air) page.
The Charleville Branch of the Air is currently inactive. If you are interested in this branch please contact the Branch Mentor.
The Charleville Branch of the Air was formed in 1976. It was affiliated under the name of the school's P & C. The President of this unique branch was always the current Parents and Citizens Association's President, and when our branch was formed, Gillian Allen was the first President, with Trish Mitchell becoming Secretary.
The current structure of this unique branch is such that our President is the representative of ICPA Branch of the Air, to the P & C.
In 1976, it was arranged through the Royal Flying Doctor Service to hold our meetings separate from the P & C’s meetings.
In 1987 the branch celebrated its 20th anniversary. At this celebration Gillian Allen and Shirley Armstrong were honoured with life membership.
In June 1990, the branch was re-organised into a regular branch which then became known as Charleville Branch of the Air, or BOTA.
Over the years, the catchment area of the branch members has been from central NSW, the South Australia border, Northern Territory and South West Queensland.
Our branch deals mainly with the concerns of Distance Education, as the majority of our members are geographically isolated and are home tutors to their children who study via the Distance Education mode of delivery.
The meetings are now held over the telephone about once a term, and at present we have 16 members and some associates.
Some of our members have gone far beyond their branch level representation, and have moved to ICPA State or Federal councils.
