Welcome to the Auburn-Burrandowan-Cadarga Branch!
The Auburn-Cadarga branch of ICPA was formed in June 1973. The name came from two prominent stations in the area. In 1984, it was felt that some members who resided to the east did not relate to the name, so it was decided the name ‘Burrandowan’, another historic station, be included, making us the Auburn-Burrandowan-Cadarga Branch, or ABC for short. The branch celebrated is 45th year in 2019 with a much-enjoyed luncheon at the Burrandowan racetrack.
Geographically, the ABC branch is in the Burnett and Northern Downs regions. The branch covers from Mundubbera in the north to Chinchilla in the south and Goomeri and Kingaroy in the east. There are 45 state schools in the area, and all of them are considered to be rural and remote by Education Queensland. Of these 45 schools, 26 of them are small schools. There are also independent schools in some of our larger towns – eg Kingaroy, Chinchilla, Murgon and Gayndah.
ABC families cover a mix of educational situations; small schools, State Delivered Kindy, home schooling, playgroups, boarding schools, children in hostel accommodation while attending state high schools, and post-secondary students at university and completing apprenticeships.
Our branch aims to hold 3 meetings each year. Meetings are usually held in the Burrandowan/Durong district, but we have travelled to other towns and locations in our area. In the past our members have attended state and federal ICPA conferences, travelling to Townsville, Adelaide, Toowoomba, and Cloncurry. During 2020, members attended the virtual rally supporting the’ Bring Our Boarders Back’ campaign and attended the 2020 virtual AGM. Past members have held positions of state councillors, and current member, Annie McGill, is State Fundraising Officer.
Our Branch's Patron is Mrs Joan Northcott.
