Background:

Tina lives with her husband and youngest son on a cattle station approximately 200 km north-west of Mt Isa. Originally from Central Queensland, Tina and her husband have spent their married life living and working across South West Queensland, the Queensland Gulf and the Barkly Tablelands.

Together they have raised three children, all of whom began their education through distance education. Their children attended both Longreach School of the Air and Mt Isa School of the Air before progressing to boarding school. Their eldest daughter and son are now in the workforce, while their youngest son attends boarding school in Rockhampton.

Having navigated the journey from School of the Air through to boarding school, Tina has firsthand experience of the opportunities and challenges faced by rural and remote families. She understands the realities of distance education, boarding school transitions and the extensive travel often required, while also appreciating the unique benefits and experiences that rural and remote living provides for children and their families. Tina currently manages a cattle station in North West Queensland alongside her husband.

Tina joined the Mt Isa BOTA in 2012, seeking support, information and advocacy for rural and remote education. She is passionate about ensuring rural and remote families have a strong voice and access to equitable educational opportunities.

Her involvement with ICPA has included serving as Mt Isa BOTA Branch Treasurer from 2013 to 2019, while also contributing to the organisation of the branch’s annual “Sports for Bush Kids” event. In 2020, Tina took on the role of Publicity Officer, serving until 2023, before stepping into a Vice President position, which she held until 2025.

At the 2023 Queensland State Conference in Julia Creek, Tina joined the Queensland State Council in the off-Council role of Membership Officer. She attended her first Queensland State Conference in Cloncurry in 2015 and has since attended numerous State Conferences, along with one Federal Conference, further strengthening her commitment to advocating for rural and remote education across Queensland and Australia.
