Leanne Fordyce – Capricornia Branch of the Air Life Member, 2011
Leanne Fordyce was a founding member of the Capricornia Branch of the Air, joining when the Branch was established in 1996. At the time, Leanne was educating her three children, twins Laura and Lachlan and younger son Mitchell, through the Emerald campus of the Capricornia School of Distance Education. The family lived at “Wyena”, north of Moranbah, before the children later moved away to boarding school for their secondary education.
Throughout her many years with ICPA, Leanne was a dedicated supporter of her Branch. She participated in Branch meetings, which in the early years were conducted via radio, assisted with fundraising activities and attended ICPA conferences. Her commitment continued well beyond the years when her own children were being educated through Distance Education.
One of Leanne’s particularly significant contributions was her annual fundraising effort at the Mackay Show. For ten years, she single-handedly organised and ran a morning tea and raffle, personally sourcing local donations and raising more than $4,000 for the Branch. For a small Branch, this represented an outstanding contribution and demonstrated Leanne’s ongoing commitment to supporting ICPA and rural and remote families.
In 2011, in recognition of her many years of dedicated service, fundraising and unwavering support, Leanne was nominated as the first Life Member of the Capricornia Branch of the Air. Her Life Membership recognised a contribution that had extended from the Branch’s very beginnings and continued long after her own family’s Distance Education journey had ended.
