Frances Hacon – Cloncurry Branch Life Member, 2023
Frances Hacon joined ICPA in approximately 1980 and has remained a continuous and active member for more than four decades. Fran’s longstanding involvement reflects a deep commitment to supporting isolated children and families and ensuring they have a voice in education.
During her many years with ICPA, Fran served as Secretary of the Cloncurry Branch for two years and also as Secretary of the Mt Isa Branch of the Air for two years. Through these roles, she contributed to the administration and ongoing work of ICPA across the region.
Fran also represented and supported ICPA at numerous State Conferences, including those held in Mt Isa, Winton and Cloncurry in 2001. When Cloncurry again hosted the ICPA Queensland State Conference in 2015, Fran took on the significant role of Food Coordinator, helping ensure the success of the event.
Much of Fran’s contribution has been through the practical, hands-on work that is so important to a strong Branch. Over the years she assisted with catering at the Variety Car Rally, Burke & Wills Campdraft and Cloncurry Show, helped with fundraising street stalls in Cloncurry and was involved in swimming lessons for local children. These activities strengthened both the Branch and the wider community while supporting ICPA’s work.
For Fran, ICPA provided not only a means of advocating for isolated children but also an important source of connection for families. In reflecting on why the organisation mattered, she highlighted the importance of having a platform where families could express their concerns about their children’s education, as well as the valuable social interaction ICPA provided for members.
In recognition of her more than 40 years of continuous involvement, dedicated Branch service and longstanding commitment to isolated children and families, Frances Hacon was nominated for Life Membership of the Cloncurry Branch on 27 March 2023. Her Life Membership recognises a remarkable contribution to ICPA and the Cloncurry community over many decades.
