Welcome to the Marree Air page.
The Marree Air branch held its first meeting in 1979 and was classified as an ‘Air’ branch due to the vast distanced its members covered, spanning from Leigh Creek to Innamincka, across to Birdsville and back down to Marree.
Graham Davies (President), Colleen Mitchell (Secretary) & Lynette Litchfield (Treasurer) were the founders of the branch. Graham was the headmaster at the Marree Aboriginal School and the three executive members met in his office to plan the way forward.
From fruition, the branch has always passionately fought for the greater good of children across the state, with support from local families being key to maintaining momentum.
Over the years the branch has held a vast array of fundraising events to support the cause including lunch for the Variety Bash at Walkers Crossing on the Birdsville Track, cricket matches with the Australian Defence Force and countless cake stalls and catering gigs.
As with many small communities, involvement in fundraising for ICPA is a family affair with children and husbands enthusiastically lending a hand. In our case, participation and leadership roles are often intergenerational, with executive roles handed down over time to anyone willing to have a go.
With less and less families in the area, the volunteer roles are falling on the same people who donate their time to other clubs, boards and organisations, so our ability to participate in fundraising opportunities have been limited in recent years We appreciate the close-knit community organisations who assist where possible and provide support.
We are very proud of what the Marree Air Branch has achieved over the years and will continue to support ICPA.
