Welcome to the Flinders Ranges page
The Flinders Ranges Branch of the I.C.P.A. was formed in 1991 from the original Port Augusta branch. Instigated by Marie Spiers, Richard and Janne Warwick, it was felt there were enough members locally to form an independent branch, and after our first meeting we had 30 member families. At present we have around 22 member families.
We aim to meet four times each year, ideally face to face or online. Our AGM near the end of the year often incorporates a Christmas celebration.
Our branch covers a spectacularly beautiful area of South Australia that includes the towns of Blinman and Parachilna in the north, Orroroo and Quorn in the south, and Hawker is the central hub.
Students in our region are enrolled at Port Augusta School of the Air, Hawker Area School, Orroroo Area School, Hawker CPC, and RICE, with some students boarding away from home to access Secondary education.
Members from our branch have attended almost all State and Federal Conferences held since our inception. Sending Delegates and Observers to conferences is a priority for our branch and has been a valuable experience for our members. We have put forward conference motions on many and varied topics including school buses, Tertiary access, Distance Education funding...
Our members have held positions in many portfolio areas and executive positions at a State level including State President, State Secretary, State Treasurer, as well as Federal Treasurer.
Each year we try to hold at least one major fundraising event. Members find these a great opportunity to get together socially while working hard to raise funds. Putting our organisational and domestic skills to good use, we have done a lot of catering including Variety Club bashes when they travel through our region. These events help to raise the profile of I.C.P.A. in our region and beyond. The money we raise has helped many local children's organisations as well as funding our conference attendants.
