Branch Life Memberships were awarded to three inaugural members of the Flinders Ranges Branch of the Isolated Children’s Parents’ Association.

On Sunday February 19th 2006 at the Cradock Hotel, Branch President Leonard Nutt proudly presented Life Membership Badges and Certificates of Appreciation to Kaye Fels and Richard and Janne Warwick, congratulating them for their efforts on behalf of all members, past and present. This was the first time the Flinders Ranges Branch had awarded this highest honour to any member. All three awardees were founding members of the Flinders Ranges Branch and are still actively committed to the achievement of equity of access to an appropriate education for all rural and remote students. The branch had managed to keep the awards a surprise from each recipient.

The Flinders Ranges Branch was formed in 1991 by ICPA members of the Port Augusta Branch including Kaye, Richard and Janne who felt there was strong enough support in the Flinders Ranges area to create and sustain their own local branch. Fifteen years later they have been proven correct.

In the first year of the branch’s operation, Kaye Fels was the Publicity Officer; Janne Warwick held the roles of secretary and treasurer; whilst Richard was a committee member.

Over the years of the branch’s history Kaye has also held the positions of State Council Delegate, State Conference Convenor (2004), conference convening committee member (1996, 2001), fundraising and President. Janne has also held the positions of President and Vice President, fundraising, conference convening committee member (1996, 2004) as well as convening the 2001 Federal Conference. Looking further than branch contributions, Janne was the Pipeline Editor for many years. Richard has played a strongly supportive role for the branch throughout his years of active involvement at the State Council level and all three members continue to regularly attend branch meetings.

Not content with her past work, Janne has recently volunteered to convene the 2007 Federal ICPA Conference, to be held in Adelaide, on behalf of SA State Council.

The life membership presentation was celebrated with a special lunch attended by current branch members and invited past members in the Cradock Hotel dining room.
