I live at Banoon Station in Far West NSW, with my husband Ryan, where we run a sheep and cropping enterprise which keeps us very busy! We have 3 teenage children who all live in Adelaide. Alice is in Year 8 boarding at Seymour College, Harry is in Year 10 boarding at Prince Alfred College and Angus is a first year Diesel Mechanic.
The kids all attended Broken Hill School of the Air for their primary years and Alice completed Stage 3 through eCalrossy.
I grew up on a sheep property, Top Hut Station, next to Mungo National Park and near the small town of Pooncarie and only half an hour from where I now live.
I completed School of the Air Broken Hill, boarded at Seymour College in Adelaide and studied nursing at the University of South Australia.
On moving to our property 16 years ago, I left my nursing career behind and although I was kept very busy with being a mum, wife, and our station life, I have always enjoyed being involved in school and local communities. I am the epitome of the saying “If you want a job done, ask a busy person” but I have learnt over the years to say no and commit only to projects and organisations that I am passionate about and that fill my cup.
I am an active member of the Wentworth branch of ICPA-NSW and currently holds the Publicity Officer position.
This is my second stint on ICPA-NSW State Council and I am so happy to be back working with such a passionate and professional team!
In 2020, I was co-opted on to State Council as the SA parent representative to assist with cross border issues due to the COVID-19 pandemic. My role evolved from there and I also held the Health and Wellness, Boarding and Allowances portfolios from 2020 to 2023.
I have returned this year as the Assistant Secretary and will have a focus on organising and implementing the annual ICPA-NSW State Conference. I have worked in event management over the past 14 years and am excited to implement those skills into my new role, alongside advocating for rural and remote families.
Through my own children’s distance education, boarding and tertiary journeys, I have developed a deep passion for education and support in these areas and fighting for equity in education. I believe isolated children should not be disadvantaged because of their geographical location and hope to continue the hard work of ICPA and help raise awareness through my position on ICPA-NSW State Council, with my fellow dedicated and passionate councillors.
