
TERTIARY ACCESS PAYMENT
Are You?
- An inner regional, outer regional or remote student
- Relocating at least 90 minutes from the family home by public transport to commence a full-time higher-level tertiary education (Certificate IV or above)
- have completed year 12 or equivalent
- studying a tertiary course at certificate IV or above
- be 22 or younger on the day you start your tertiary course
- have parents or guardians whose income is under the current combined parental income limit.
The Tertiary Access Payment is a one-off, means tested (combined parental income under $250,000) payment for inner regional, outer regional, remote or very remote students.
A payment of $3000 or up to $5000, is available to assist with the cost of relocation – start-up expenses, cost of living, direct costs of education or training and the cost of travelling home in semester breaks.
TAP can be paid in addition to Youth Allowance/ABSTUDY and the Relocation Scholarship.
Students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.

If you finished school in 2024 and meet the eligibility rules, you can claim TAP at any time between 1 January and 31 December 2025.
If it’s more than 12 months since you finished school, you can’t claim right now. Services Australia are updating their systems to take your claim. It is expected this to be complete by mid to late June 2025.
