My name is Bronwyn Tofaeono, and I am very pleased to be introducing myself in my new role on the ICPA NSW State Council as the Specific Student Needs Portfolio Leader.
I live on Lord Howe Island, located 780 kilometres off the coast of Sydney in the Tasman Sea. Our small island community is home to the most remote school in New South Wales, where I have taught for over 20 years in a multi-stage classroom setting.
I have 2 daughters , Charlotte ( 25 ) and Lucinda (18). The girls experienced both Distance Education and boarding school, at Abbotsleigh and Barker College which has given me firsthand insight into the challenges and rewards of supporting children’s learning from afar.
I have been involved with the Lord Howe Island Branch of ICPA for several years and have attended the past two Federal Conferences. Each time, I’ve come away inspired by the stories, dedication, and advocacy of families across rural and remote Australia, and by the real impact ICPA continues to have on education access and equity.
As both an educator and a parent, I am passionate about ensuring that all students—especially those with specific learning needs—are supported to reach their full potential, no matter where they live.
In my spare time, enjoying the island’s incredible natural environment, get togethers with friends and family, and staying involved in our local community.
I look forward to connecting with members, hearing your experiences, and working together to continue strengthening opportunities for all rural and remote families .
