Background:

Kylie and her husband Ernie live on Floraville Downs, a grassfed beef property, in the Southern Gulf of Carpentaria, 71km south of Burketown.

A governess for eight years before moving to Floraville, she was grateful for that experience when her own children began their distance education journey. Their four children were educated firstly through Mt Isa School of the Air before attending boarding school - the eldest in Cairns and the others in Toowoomba. Toowoomba was almost 1800km away but their second child had specific needs that were best accommodated for at schools there. A grandmother of two wonderful girls who live at Floraville, the eldest has now begun Ekindy thorugh Brisbane and Kylie helps out in the classroom on occasion. 2026 will see the third generation of Camps attend MISOTA.

Two of their children live at Floraville. Their youngest son and his family as well as their daughter and her husband both live here, with the latter returning home for a few years to help with recovery after catastrophic flooding in 2023 caused extensive damage to their property. Their daughter works for local government in Burketown while her husband works with them on the property. Their eldest son lives in Dalby, working in ag and their other daughter, a qualified florist,  lives in Toowoomba with her husband, working in retail.

A big believer in supporting her community, Kylie is a member or on the executive of many local community and sporting groups as well as being a committee member of regional health advisory and economic development groups.

She has been a member of ICPA since 2001, joining Mt Isa Branch of the Air when her eldest started  preschool.  Serving as President for many years, she is currently Vice President. For two years she was the Portfolio Research Officer for Qld State Council, before moving onto Council in Cloncurry in 2015. She stepped off Council in Townsville in 2024 but still represents ICPA on the Qld Schools Animal Ethics Committee, a role she commenced while on State Council. In 2025, Kylie stepped into the Portfolio Support Officer role with Federal ICPA. In this role she assists Council members and/or executive to develop, create and progress activities and actions in support of its advocacy and efforts to give a voice to rural and remote students.

Passionate about health, education and community, she admires and appreciates all that ICPA stands for, and tirelessly works towards: accessible and equitable educational outcomes for all irrespective of where and how learning is undertaken.
