Hi! I’m Hannah and I am so excited to be stepping into the role of PEDALS editor. I have very big shoes to fill, as Raelene has left a large legacy.
I might be a city kid by geographic location, but I’m a country kid at heart. Having grown up on the Gold Coast, with Grandparents owning a dairy turned beef property in the Gold Coast Hinterland, I got to live the best of both worlds.
I’ve always loved rural Australia, but it wasn’t until a chance meeting with a family while on a work trip to ICPA’s Sports for Bush Kids week in Mt Isa, which subsequentially resulted in me spending 12 months on a cattle station in North-West QLD as a Governess that the bush stole my heart.
For several reasons, I currently live in Brisbane, but cannot wait to move ‘back west’ when the time is right. I am a secondary Humanities and HPE teacher and am currently the Boarding Student Wellbeing Coordinator at an all-girls school.
I am passionate about bridging the rural-urban divide, particularly in education, and have recently finished my Master of Education thesis investigating the transitional experiences for rural students starting Year 7 at metropolitan boarding schools.
I’d like to thank Alana and the Federal Council for allowing me to take on this role and Raelene for giving me the opportunity to work alongside her and learn the ropes before her retirement from the Editor.
