Distance Education, SOTA and Curriculum

Classroom

Distance Education

For many rural and remote children the only form of education available due to geographical location is via distance education that is delivered in WA by five (5) Schools of the Air (SOTA) and through the School of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE).  Further information can be found on the Department of Education website.

Curriculum

The school curriculum is continually evolving.  It is extremely important that this evolution and the structure of the curriculum is suited to the education of rural and remote children, especially those that are completing their studies via distance education.

SOTA and SIDE

ICPA (WA) lobbies to ensure the delivery of the best possible educational service to students who do not have daily face-to-face contact with their teachers.

In 2026 the Distance Education, SOTA and Curriculum Portfolio will focus on issues including:

  • Advocating for fit-for-purpose internet services for School of the Air (SOTA) and Distance Ed. students.
  • Advocating for a Remuneration for Isolated Classroom Supervisors (RICS).

This portfolio is led by Madi Hall and supported by Olivia Ford.
