Distance Education, SOTA and Curriculum

Classroom

Distance Education

For many rural and remote children the only form of education available due to geographical location is via distance education that is delivered in WA by five (5) Schools of the Air (SOTA) and through the School of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE).  Further information can be found on the Department of Education website.

Curriculum

The school curriculum is continually evolving.  It is extremely important that this evolution and the structure of the curriculum is suited to the education of rural and remote children, especially those that are completing their studies via distance education.

SOTA and SIDE

ICPA (WA) lobbies to ensure the delivery of the best possible educational service to students who do not have daily face-to-face contact with their teachers.

In 2023 the Distance Education, SOTA and Curriculum Portfolio will focus on issues including:

  • supporting ICPA (Aust) in advocating for the establishment of a Distance Education Teaching Allowance (DETA) for home tutors.

This portfolio is led by Louise Linke and supported by Jane Cunningham.
