About Longreach

The town of Longreach is located in Central West Queensland with a population of approximately 3,500 people.  Longreach is the heart of Outback Queensland and is home to attractions including Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame and the Qantas Outback Founders Museum.  It is named after the ‘long reach’ of the Thomson River upon which it is situated.  A visit to Longreach can offer a glimpse into the lives of Australia’s pioneers, with a huge range of authentic experiences on offer for visitors, including a Cobb & Co stagecoach ride, a cruise along the river under the stars and tours of either museum.

The Longreach Branch of ICPA was formed in November 1971, and Longreach has played host to a previous Federal Conference in 2009.  Hosting the 50th ICPA Federal Conference in Longreach signifies the strong ties ICPA continues to value to its grassroots, this being a central area for many of the first ICPA branches formed in 1971.
