Dear Readers,
It is a privilege to be the editor as we celebrate 175 issues of Pedals.
I have really enjoyed compiling this issue and getting to connect with previous editors and stakeholders who have helped Pedals become what it is today.
As always, a heartfelt thank you to publisher Tracey Dewell for taking my very vague notes, such as, ‘I don’t really know what to do… Can you just make it look good?’ and always working her magic. I don’t know what I’d do without her eagle eye, creativity and patience.
Further thanks to those who have contributed articles to this edition. I don’t know whether I’m feeling sentimental because of the occasion, but I think the best part of this role is connecting with people from all over Australia. I love getting a little life update when I receive content from previous contributors or people I’ve met at Federal conference.
In this issue, you’ll find some special 175th anniversary content, including reflections from previous Pedals editors (pages 14 - 17) and a trip down memory lane, with a range of previous Pedals covers. Thank you to previous editors, Lyn Cadzow and Raelene Hall and Federal archivist Carmel Elliott for their contributions.
In addition, you will find all the usual content, from Federal Council delegation reports to updates from branches on how they are pursuing advocacy, fundraising and supporting their local communities.
To all branches – your story is never too small, I would love to hear what you’re up to on a local level in your hometowns.
This significant milestone has had me thinking about the idea of legacy. Pedals, like ICPA, thrives because of the legacy left by those who have come before. Poet, Rupi Kaur summarises it perfectly and verbalises how I feel as I get the opportunity to be a tiny piece in the puzzle of success: ‘I stand on the sacrifices of a million people before me thinking, what can I do to make this mountain taller so the people after me can see farther?’ – Legacy, Rupi Kaur
Happy Reading, HANNAH CALCINO
