ICPA Australia is calling on the Federal Government to formally recognise the role that parents play in distance education with the launch of Geographically Isolated Distance Education Day on 1 December. The day recognises and honours the ongoing plight of geographically isolated families who must educate their children at home at all times.

Not to be deterred by challenges stemming from a global pandemic and an intergalactic event, one hundred and twenty determined parents met online last week for the Isolated Children’s Parents’ Association 49th annual Federal Conference that took place via a web conference.

Appropriately themed “Learn from the past, build the future” this year’s Conference will be held online where members and guests from across Australia will gather virtually for two days of active debate and conversation. Over 30 motions have been lodged with geographically isolated families eager to ensure equitable access to education for children living in our rural and remote areas.

The Isolated Children’s Parents’ Association of Australia, ICPA (Aust) welcomes the recent announcement by Minister for Education the Hon Dan Tehan MP outlining the implementation of measures from the National Regional, Rural and Remote Education Strategy to assist students from rural, regional and remote Australia to participate in and attain a tertiary education.

ICPA (Aust) has had numerous members raising concerns over the recent COVID-19 ECEC Relief Package announced last Thursday, 2 April 2020 with its 50% reduced funding implications for IHC service providers and educators.
2020 ICPA Australia Federal Conference Update

Unfortunately, the 49th Annual Federal Conference that was to be held in Hobart, Tasmania on 5 and 6 August this year will need to be cancelled.
With the current unpredictable COVID-19 pandemic isolation measures and travel restrictions in place across Australia, Federal Council is not able to move forward with the conference as initially planned.
ICPA (Aust) is presently exploring all options available to come to an informed decision regarding the best alternative solution to conduct our annual AGM and Conference through a platform which will still connect us with our members, Branches, Councils and supporters.
