Tertiary, Trade and Training

trainee

All rural and remote students who have the ability, ambition, motivation and aspiration to pursue their goals of further studies or other career pathways should have this option, regardless of their socio-economic status or geographic location.

Rural and remote students are under-represented at tertiary level compared to metropolitan students.  Rural and remote children should be able to attend the educational institution of their choice.  Other career pathways such as traineeships, apprenticeships and vocational education and training play a vital role in students achieving their career aspirations.

The high cost of relocation to undertake further training and education, including transport, upfront expenses and ongoing living expenses, the inability to be able to live at home, access to financial assistance and accommodation availability and affordability are all factors that result in the under-representation of rural and remote students.

This portfolio is led by Chandra Ridley and supported by Arlene Sutherland.
