ICPA-NSW has been working with RuralBiz Training and have succeeded in the introduction of an exciting new course which specifically targets all those who are home schooling their children.

The Certificate III in Education Support course is designed for people who are working, or want to work, in schools as teacher assistants or for people home tutoring children such as those in the roles of a distance education tutor or governess.

New South Wales Government Allowances

AIC - The Assistance for Isolated Children (AIC) Scheme helps the families of primary, secondary, and certain tertiary students who cannot attend an appropriate state school on a daily basis because of geographical isolation.

In some specific circumstances, bypassing concessions can apply to students who do not meet the distance criteria but are 'deemed 'to be isolated (section 4.4 AIC Guidelines) or have special needs that cannot be met by their local school (section 4.3 AIC Guidelines).

If you wish to claim the allowance based on one of the concessions, you will need to obtain a statement of support from the NSW Department of Education and Training in Bathurst.

BSIS - The Boarding Scholarships for Isolated Students scheme (BSIS) provides assistance to students in Years 7 to 12 from rural areas who are disadvantaged.

LAFHA - The NSW Secondary Schools Living Away from Home Allowance provides assistance to eligible families who must board their children away from home to obtain secondary education.

CAP - The Country Areas Program (CAP) is administered as part of the Australian Government funding provided through the Rural and Regional Assistance for the 2009 – 2012 quadrennium.

DET - The NSW Department of Education and Training delivers high quality, internationally competitive public education and training from early childhood (pre-school), through to the compulsory years of schooling (Kindergarten to Year 10), and senior secondary education leading to the award of the NSW Higher School Certificate (in Years 11 and 12).

BCEF - The Bush Children's Education Foundation (BCEF) provides financial assistance to school-aged children living in outback New South Wales. In 2007, the Foundation extended its support to include tertiary students.

UAC - The Universities Admissions Centre (NSW & ACT) is the central office that receives and processes applications for admission to most undergraduate degree, advanced diploma, diploma and associate diploma courses at the participating institutions. UAC also processes applications for admission to a number of postgraduate courses at participating institutions.

ACARA - The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) is the independent authority responsible for the development of a national curriculum, a national assessment program and a national data collection and reporting program that supports 21st century learning for all Australian students.

Queensland Government Allowances

Living Away from Home Allowances Scheme (LAFHAS)

The Department of Education, Training and the Arts provides assistance to eligible Queensland parents whose children must board away from home to attend school on a daily basis because: the ir homes are geographically isolated; and they do not have reasonable daily access to a government school with the appropriate le vel of primary, secondary or special schooling. Textbook and Resource Allowance

Department of Education, Training and the Arts provides assistance to parents/caregivers of secondary school age students attending state and approved non-state schools to contribute towards the cost of textbooks and learning resources. QSA - The Queensland Studies Authority is a statutory body of the Queensland Government. They provide Preparatory Year to Year 12 syllabuses, assessment, reporting, testing, accreditation and certification services for Queensland schools

QTAC - The Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre's role is to provide and operate a centralised tertiary application system and to publish comprehensive information for prospective applicants. QTAC also processes applications for full-time advanced diploma and diploma courses in Queensland institutes of TAFE and some private providers of post secondary courses.

QAGTC - Queensland Association for Gifted and Talented Children Inc. is an open association for people who share a common interest in gifted and talented children.

RREAP - The Rural and Remote Education Access Program (RREAP) helps schools and school communities improve the educational outcomes and opportunities of students who are disadvantaged because of their geographical isolation so that their learning outcomes match those of other students.

VISE - Volunteers for Isolated Students' Education is an organisation that provides educational assistance to families and students in rural Australia.
